The Swag Bag Team
Swag bags are ready to go!
There was enough swag for Inova Children's Hospital.
The Cookie Cartel is a home-based baked goods company in Accokeek, Maryland. In our off-season, we provide service to organizations that might need a helping hand.  In 2020, The Cookie Cartel ran a campaign to support patients in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas undergoing cancer-related treatments with the Swag Care Bag Campaign. We wanted to provide a bit of hope and light with care bags that include some of the following items:

-lip balm and unscented hydrating lotion
-puzzles, bookmarks, notepads, and pens
-texting gloves, a hat, or cozy socks

The Cookie Cartel is happy to report that the Swag Bag Campaign has been FULLY funded ($534 raised). Two deliveries have been made: Inova Schar Center (35 bags) and MedStar Washington Hospital Center (25 bags). We are awaiting confirmation to deliver 30 more bags to Inova Children's Hospital and The Tate Center at UMD Baltimore Washington Medical Center. In total, your donations have helped to pack 120 swag bags to provide support to patients receiving care to fight cancer. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The patients who received their bags have been very thankful. Each bag has a positive quote thanks to Ericka Jeter. Bags were packed and verified by Kimberly Wilson, Jazzlyn Ford, Jacquelyn Freeman, Latoya Strain, Liana Strain, Noah Strain, Tracy ForsonLaShan Gales and family, Carlos Coleman with additional support from Anthony D. Body Jr. and Tilea Coleman.

While the confections are for sale, Yolonda's purpose behind baking has a philanthropic touch. Proceeds from her cookie sales (batch orders only) support working moms who experience financial hardship while on leave without pay to care for their newborn child(ren). Social services provide little to no support for these women because, in theory, they have an income, but it is just temporarily suspended. Hence, Cookies for Moms was born.

Cookies for Moms spawned from Yolonda's personal experience as a new mom. After being sick for her entire pregnancy, any savings she and her husband had was depleted. As a result, they had very little room to plan for their son's arrival. They survived, but it was clear that Yolonda's experience could help others.
